P - Primary: This is your primary means of evacuation. Depending on your location and proximity to a MAJOR ARTERIAL EVACAUTION ROUTE. You know your neighborhood best. From your home traveling under fire weather conditions what is the best route to get on road system. These major roads have been identified in Alpine with approved Evacuation signs.
A - Alternate: If your Primary evacuation route has been obstructed, where is your next route from home on road system? Heading the opposite direction of the fire front.
C - Contingent: This is the third option. If the fire front has taken both of the major roads away, what is the third option for road system? You may have to take several smaller roads to cut across to get to major road. Be prepared for road congestion, delays.
E - Emergency: This is the last resort. If you have completed proper defensible space around your home by creating Zone 0!!!! Maintaining Zone 1 and Zone 2 limbing up trees off the ground. Cut brush to manageable heights. Limit the flame heights towards the home. The "E" is shelter in place inside the home and allow the fire front to pass around the home. Call 9-1-1 and say you are trapped. Resources when they become available will be in area.
Defensible space is homeowners responsibility to maintain as needed. This does not mean once a year. Weed whacking the grasses, cutting brush, limbing trees and clearing along fire department access roads are "AS NEEDED". Fire season is not a start or finish date, but all year round. Weather conditions, drought, low rain seasons have caused natural chaparral to be strained and cure quicker than normal.
Temporary Safe Refuge Areas. These are areas to go to if PACE is not available. If the fire front has blocked all evacuation routes. Go to the closest Temporary Safe Refuge Area and wait for further instructions.
